On Monday, the representation of the European Commission in Romania launched a new online platform dedicated to the fight against disinformation: TRUE – The bare truth. The platform will help strengthen the strategy to combat the phenomenon, which is increasingly spreading both in the world and in Romanian society.
The new platform aims to support the general public with useful tools to identify fake news and information that is spread online for the purpose of disinformation.
The “true – empty truth” platform combines articles, cases, video materials created in cooperation with influencers, as well as didactic materials that can be used during classes.
“65% of Romanians say that news or information that they believe distorts reality or is even false is a problem for democracy in general, according to Standard Eurobarometer 98. We want trEU – The Plain Truth to provide a basic set tools with which as many Romanians as possible can identify information that distorts reality regarding the European Union and not only that which appears in the public space. We offer free online resources dedicated to combating misinformation, materials for teachers to use in the classroom, information on debunking myths, video podcasts created by influencers that help us “translate” sometimes technical information for everyone to understand, and much more.” — said Ramona Kyriac, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Romania.
The new platform also facilitates interaction with the general public. To the e-mail address comm-rep-ro-true@ec.europa.eu, those interested can join our initiative or report cases of misinformation related to the European Union.
