100 of the best masters of Romanian art, masterpieces of museum importance and important collections come together in the Cesianu-Rakovice Palace in the largest exhibition of historical works of art worth more than 1 million euros. The exhibition, which opened today, will precede the “Autumn Auction – 100 Great Masters of Romanian Art”, a 1920s jazz-tinged gala event for art collectors and enthusiasts on Thursday 19 October.
The Autumn Auction – 100 Best Masters of Romanian Art exhibition features artists who are among the top 10 classics over €100,000, representatives of important Romanian art, according to the market results of recent years – Nicolae Grigorescu, Stefan Lucian, Nicolae Tonica, Teodor Aman, Carol Pop de Satmari, Camille Ressu, Arthur Segal or Ion Tzuculescu.
A collector’s favourite, national artist Nicolae Grigorescu signs three selected works of art at the Romanian art market’s biggest event of the season. The work “Convoi de care cu boi, pe eserat”, which is also the most valuable work at the auction on October 19, was put up for auction at a starting price of 40,000 euros. Another masterpiece of the auction is “Pe Câmpinita”, signed by Nicolae Grigorescu. The work, with a starting price of 30,000 euros, comes from the historical collection of Aleksandr Vlaguce and has been reproduced in famous monographs or biographies of the national artist. From landscapes painted in the midst of nature, to which the artist devotes countless canvases, we reach transcriptions of rural architecture. Five years before his death, the native artist signs the work “Case la Câmpina”, the starting price of which at the auction is 25,000 euros.
A rare appearance on the Romanian art market – expressive portraits signed by Stefan Lucian. Two such rarities will appear at the autumn auction: one is a pastel portrait of a young girl in the Art Nouveau style, perhaps the personification of the season, the starting price of which is 12,000 euros; the other is an expensive portrait of his brother Anibal Lucian, with a starting price of €20,000. In his sensitive portrait work, the artist captures the human condition, faces oppressed by thoughts, views engulfed in emotional dramas or illuminated by dreams of the realization of his heroes, achievements of artistic skill, highlighted by two paintings put up for auction.
Many works in the autumn auction come from prestigious historical collections. Works from the historical collection of Ekaterina Caragiale-Logadi, daughter of the great playwright Ion Luca Caragiale, are rarely found on the Romanian art market. This time, the work “Venice (Chiesa di San Marcuola)” signed by Gheorghe Petrascu appears at the autumn auction, the starting price of which is 15,000 euros. From the collection of the famous British artist Barry Mason comes the work “Sunflower” signed by Arthur Segal. The work has participated in numerous international exhibitions and has a starting price of 3,000 euros. Four important works come from the collection of the politician Corneliu Vadim Tudor: In the Garden, signed by Nicolae Vermont (starting price €2,000); “Lily” by Octav Băncilă (starting price 3,000 euros); “Pierro and Columbine” by Josip Iser (starting price 6000 euros) and “Canceu cu garofițe” by Adam Beltsatu (starting price 900 euros).
On the occasion of the most important art auction of the season, Casa Artmark celebrates the most valuable Romanian artists whose works currently dominate the top art sales in Romania. Masterpieces signed by the great masters of Romanian art are exhibited in the Cesianu-Rakovice Palace and can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event “Autumn Auction – 100 Greatest Masters of Romanian Art” will take place from 19:00 in the Casa A10 auction room by Artmark, as well as online on the Artmark Live platform.
