Transgaz has signed a contract under which it will take over the exploitation, operation, dispatching and transportation of natural gas from the Republic of Moldova from the operator “Moldovatransgaz” SRL, starting on September 19.

The takeover is through Transgaz’s subsidiary from the Republic of Moldova, Vestmoldtransgaz SRL, the company that operates, operates and dispatches the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.

“Thanks to this approach, Transgaz continues its strategic presence in the Republic of Moldova, helping to ensure the strategic interests of the region. Ensuring the separation and independence of operators of natural gas transportation systems from vertically integrated enterprises engaged in the production, distribution, storage, trade or supply of natural gas is one of the main goals for the creation of a liberalized natural gas market in the Republic of Moldova,” said the Director General Transgaz Ion Sterian, the company said in a statement.

Regarding the acceptance of activities for exploitation, operation, dispatching and transportation of natural gas from the Republic of Moldova, we have completed all the necessary formalities stipulated by the legislation of the Republic of Moldova. This is an approach that strengthens the role and place of Transgaz in the European gas sector. We were the first multinational company with majority state capital when we bought Vestmoldtransgaz, and now we are already a player actively involved in ensuring regional energy security,” Sterian added.

VMTG’s approach is a consequence of Moldovatransgaz SRL’s failure to comply with unbundling requirements (separation of transmission, distribution and supply activities), which led to a change in the legislative framework in the Republic of Moldova to also ensure the country’s energy security. as an agreement with the European regulatory framework.
