Microsoft has signed an agreement with Sony to keep the Call of Duty series available on PlayStation game consoles, Microsoft said on Sunday.

The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, makers of the best-selling Call of Duty games, has raised concerns that it could lead to anti-competitive behavior.

The $68.7 billion (about €61 billion) takeover deal would be the largest of its kind in gaming industry history.

Sony was concerned that Microsoft would make Call of Duty and other Activision games exclusive to the Xbox.

Sunday’s “binding agreement” means Call of Duty will continue to launch on Xbox and Sony Playstation.

What did Microsoft say?

The news of the deal was announced by Phil Spencer, CEO of games at Microsoft.

“We look forward to a future where gamers around the world have more options to play their favorite games,” Spencer wrote on Twitter.

Microsoft’s announcement that it intended to acquire Activision Blizzard in January 2022 sparked fears and prompted US and UK regulators to put the brakes on finalizing the acquisition.

Microsoft President Brad Smith said the company is committed to addressing any concerns raised by regulators, developers or consumers.

“Even after we cross the finish line to approve this deal, we will remain focused on ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on more platforms and for more consumers than ever before,” he said on Twitter.

Microsoft’s proposed purchase of Activision Blizzard could be finalized on Tuesday.
