The last Ford Fiesta vehicles rolled out of the Cologne plant on Friday, with the model ending production after reaching its seventh generation and years of sales of more than 400,000 vehicles in Europe. Ford announced in the fall of 2022 that it will phase out the Fiesta to make way for new electric models.
Since its launch in 1976, the Ford Fiesta has sold more than 16 million units over seven generations. During its history, the Ford Fiesta generation has been on the market for about 6-8 years.
Over the years, Ford has sold more than 300,000 Fiestas in Europe, with the best years being 2009 and 2010, when more than 400,000 were sold. Last year, 73,000 Fiestas were sold in Europe, with the best-selling Blue Oval model became Puma.
In October 2022, Ford announced the restructuring of the model range and preparation for the transition to electric cars, it is planned that from 2030 the company will sell only electric cars in Europe. As part of the restructuring and making room for new electric models, it was decided to remove the Fiesta, S-Max and Galaxy models from the range.
Even if the Fiesta disappears, Ford has a Romanian-made model in its range that works very well: the Craiova-made Puma, which will also have an electric version from 2024. Puma’s sales in Europe have doubled that of the Fiesta.
In 2026, the company wants to sell 600,000 electric cars.
