From August 1, 2023, basic food items will become cheaper, if we look at the decree recently published in the Official Gazette, which provides limitation of commercial receipts from processors to traders.

By the beginning of next month, changes will need to be made to existing trade contracts. This is required by the Decree.

It should be borne in mind that the price is not set by the state in the sense that we can know exactly how much it falls from one product to another, from one store to another. It is impossible to say exactly how much a loaf of bread costs on the market: you can find out in a certain bakery or in a certain supermarket.

So, there are many factors that dictate the price: cost of production, brand, manufacturer, transport, supermarket.

We are not in communism in the sense that the group sets the price on the shelf and companies must respect it even if they suffer losses. Otherwise: bankruptcy and deficit.

Let’s not forget that restricting additions can have the following consequences, which even the Competition Council has pointed out.

How it will finally look on the shelf, or what we will see, we will find out on August 1.

How expensive food has become over the past year

The latest statistical data on prices are at the level of May 2023. Food prices rose by 18.7%.

If we look at the list, which is part of the resolution, and look at the data, we will notice that the price of bread has increased by 15.5%, cow’s milk – by 19.4%, cheese – by 26.7%, flour – by 11.1%, oil – by 13.5%. , eggs 29.7%, oil 1.2%, poultry 15.2%, pork 13.2%, vegetables and canned vegetables 25.9%, fresh fruit 22.5%, potatoes 25.5%, sugar 58, 7%.
