The American automaker Ford Motor is preparing a new round of layoffs in the United States, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing sources who wished to remain anonymous, reports Reuters.
In March 2022, the company announced plans to cut up to $3 billion in structural spending in its internal combustion vehicle division, and in August Ford said it would cut 3,000 jobs, mostly in North America and India.
According to the WSJ, the new round of layoffs will affect employees in the electric vehicle and software divisions in Detroit, United States, but the number of those who will be laid off is unknown.
Ford officials did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
Higher prices and increased demand for electric vehicles have helped automakers weather the effects of high inflation, although higher raw material costs hurt business. Auto companies are trying to keep costs under control in their expensive EV divisions.
The American automaker has three divisions: Ford Model e (electric vehicles), Ford Blue (internal combustion vehicles) and Ford Pro (commercial and utility vehicles). (Agerpress)
