Global Center of Excellence established in Greece by the company Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is one of the few companies owned by the global technology group that supports HPE Ezmeral software. A 30-person team of IT engineers and developers will work at HPE facilities to support HPE business customers. Such as Alfredo Yepes explains “K”.general manager and senior vice president of HPE Latin America and Southeast Europe, the fact that Greece has an excellent academic environment and startup ecosystem from which the multinational group drew talented engineers played a key role in the decision of the multinational group to create a new teams in the country.
“This is a large-scale investment in Greece to help businesses and organizations around the world integrate artificial intelligence into their operations and gain a comparative advantage from the sheer amount of data they hold. Artificial intelligence is a hotly debated topic, especially in terms of its impact on the labor market and workforce. At the European level, Greece is the fourth country of origin of leading AI researchers and leaders, and we are investing in this momentum. We are investing in a highly specialized Greek talent pool and are helping to make Greece a global innovation hub with international reach and activity,” he adds.
Artificial intelligence
But to what extent is artificial intelligence the holy grail of survival and success not only for business, but for society as a whole?
At the European level, Greece is the fourth country of origin of leading researchers and leaders in the field of artificial intelligence.
“Artificial intelligence, combined with data and advanced analytics, plays a key role in discovering new knowledge, creating trusted transactions, and using that intelligence in a revolutionary, ethical and secure way. The ability to leverage large volumes of data from multiple sources and manage that data effectively can not only lay the foundation for a successful digital transformation, but also help create a significant competitive advantage for businesses,” explains Mr. Yepes. However, as HPE’s top executive notes, businesses are struggling to get AI right. Mr. Yepes points out that data is the new oil. “Now we have entered what HPE CEO Antonio Neri has called the age of insight, where the focus is on extracting valuable knowledge from data — knowledge that can uplift every person on the planet,” says .
“The volume of data is growing exponentially and organizations need to acquire the tools and skills to quickly extract not only information but value. Placing data at the heart of an organization’s value engine is an opportunity for organizations in all industries to start treating data as their true strategic asset. In fact, we believe that in the future these figures will be tracked on corporate balance sheets. Recognizing the dynamic transformation of data, the European Commission has proclaimed a vision: data must be the lifeblood of economic growth, and Europe must lead a thriving global data economy. Governments across Europe are investing in data technologies and data exchange architectures, and are taking legislative and regulatory action to strengthen data governance,” he emphasizes.
Digitization
However, with digitization and new technology applications such as ChatGPT causing drastic upheavals in all areas, the question is whether Greece is ready for this kind of change. “Your country is a great example of how an age of insight powered by advanced technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence is changing our world. As the pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation, the country has introduced various online platforms for a variety of services since the first lockdown, such as non-material prescriptions, personalized vaccination schedules, and many other services that have made everyday life easier for citizens. However, several steps need to be taken towards the digital transformation of the state and business in Greece in order for the country to improve its digital maturity rating,” says Alfredo Yepes. In this direction, the resources of the Recovery Fund contribute to the implementation of digital transformation projects. However, disbursing the Recovery Fund in a timely manner is challenging “due to the tight schedules and scale of the projects that need to be implemented.”
“However, this is also a great opportunity to change how we carry out each project and how we use not only financial but also human capital. We need new tools and a different approach to using technology as a service to get business results based on their data,” concludes general manager and senior vice president of HPE Latin America and Southeast Europe.
