Lloyds Bank has appointed AlixPartners to act as trustee for B.UK, the Bermudian company that owns the historic papers.

The British bank’s decision came after years of confrontation with the owners of all these companies, twin brothers Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay, over the restructuring of loans they received from the Bank of Scotland. This is a bank that was taken over by Lloyds in 2008 in the midst of the financial crisis.

The Barkley Brothers purchased the Telegraph in 2004 for £665 million. Sir David passed away in 2021.

A spokesman for the family said the disputed loans are linked to the group’s broader media holdings and “do not in any way affect the operation of the Telegraph Media Group,” which is said to have over 750,000 subscribers and has recorded profit growth in previous years.

Lloyds is believed to be valuing the molds at around £600m and as this is a healthy business, there is expected to be a big battle between interested parties at the upcoming auction. Interested parties are thought to be Daily Mail owner Lord Rothermere and Rupert Murdoch.
