In the coming days, the tax administration and the KEAO will send notifications to the tax inspectorate to those who owe more than 150,000 euros with a proposal to pay off the debt.

Basically, the email they will receive will ask the debtors to join the Fixed Treasury Agreement (24 or 48 payments). otherwise, their name or trade name will be included in the list of large public debtors..

For the first time, information about debtors was made public in 2017, and in 2020 the process was “frozen” due to the pandemic. Although everything was ready for the publication of the list in 2022 by decision of the Deputy Minister of Finance, its publication was suspended.

The new financial staff, who will appear after the June 25 elections, will be asked to decide on the placement of large public debtors on the AADE website.

These statements, which will be made public, include overdue insurance debts to e-EFKA that exceed 150,000 euros of the main contribution (capital). and their payment is overdue by more than a year, that is, they date back to the period of insurance preceding the calendar year preceding the date of publication. The same applies to the debtors of the tax office.

However, the following debts are excluded from disclosure even if they meet the above criteria for the amount and age of the debt.

In particular, the following are excluded:

  • debts subject to the regulatory regime and the terms of which are observed,
  • debts for which payments are suspended by a temporary order, a court decision, an act of an administrative body or a law,
  • debts declared uncollectible,
  • debts of the deceased or minor and
  • debts of legal entities of the narrow or broader public sector

It is noted that total arrears now exceed 113 billion euros.

From the analysis of the data, it is clear that about 4 million taxpayers who owe the tax office, debts of more than 300,000 euros have 20,943 debtors. These debtors owe 85.2% of the total arrears as of January 1, 2023, i.e. they owe a total of 96.869 billion euros. Most debtors have amounts less than 3,000 euros, i.e. 81.2% of all debtors.
