efood continued its upward trajectory in 2022, recording new growth in turnover as well as profits, confirming its leading position in the online ready-to-eat meal ordering category – and beyond. In 2022, the company’s turnover amounted to 135.61 million euros, which is 20% more than in 2021, and 194 times more than just eight years ago, in 2014, when it did not even reach 1 million euros and was limited 700,000 euros.
Of course, there have been many changes since then in the company, which was acquired by German Delivery Hero in 2015, with the most important milestones being the collaboration with Sklavenitis in 2020, shortly after the start of the pandemic, the decision to also deal with distribution, in addition to taking orders, and the acquisition in 2021 of the companies of the Mouchal group (etable, delivery.gr, INKAT and ALFA Distributions), with which it expanded, among other things, its activities in the wholesale of confectionery, but also in small retail through the Kioski mini-market chain.
Much of his income certainly comes from his core business of online ordering, and in particular the commissions he earns for ordering at partner stores as more and more consumers move away from the traditional method of ordering by phone. In particular, according to the company’s financial report, out of the 135.61 million euros of its turnover in 2022, 88.20 million euros were commission income, an increase of approximately 11 million euros compared to 2021 (77.15 million euros). ). As a reminder, after efood decides to switch to a distribution service, additional fees are charged from employee stores.
Another important source of income for the company is the provision of marketing and advertising services for stores located on its platform. Revenues from these services amounted to 32.03 million euros in 2022, an increase of around 7.6 million euros compared to 2021 (24.44 million euros). The addition of new companies and efood’s continued organic growth has resulted in an increase in full-time employees from 576 to 660 in 2021, all of whom are on a payroll.
Profit after tax also increased to 25.16 million euros in 2022 from 17.67 million euros in 2021.
It is noted that etable and delivery.gr have so far been taken over by Online Delivery, with the company planning to include a gradual takeover of two other Mouchal group companies that were acquired in 2021.
It is worth noting that for the first time the presence of credit obligations in the amount of 7 million euros was recorded. They relate to the acceptance of guarantees for existing loan obligations of Mouchal group companies, which were purchased to replace old guarantors. The company has zero debt and increased liquidity thanks to €34.7 million in cash.
