​Bosch says it will also expand to Sibiu a scientific and technical unit that also tests autonomous cars in Cluj and also uses AI technology. Bosch, which owns several factories in Romania, has about 10,000 employees, a number that grew by 12% last year. The company continues hiring in 2023.

Bosch representatives announced at the company’s annual conference that an office will be opened in Sibiu, where hardware and software work will be carried out. When asked if they chose Sibiu because they could no longer find engineers in Cluj, company representatives said that was not the reason, but the fact that Sibiu also had qualified people and they wanted to take advantage of that.

In 2022, Bosch invested approximately 410 million lei (approximately €83 million) in Romania, mainly in the development of production units in the Mobility Solutions business sector in Cluj and Blaž, as well as in research and development within the Engineering Center from Cluj.

The engineering center has 1,400 employees in Cluj, and this year the construction of a ten-story building will be completed, where work began in 2021. The center works in areas such as software development, hardware and mechanical engineering, reliability development and quality assurance, but also in the mobility sector.

The plant in Zhuk, Cluj County, registered growth in 2022, producing 12 percent more electronic control units for airbags, multi-camera systems and driver assistance systems than last year. A new building was built at the Blaj plant.

Bosch in Romania ended the 2022 fiscal year with consolidated sales of 2.5 billion lei (€512 million), thus recording an increase of approximately four percent compared to the previous year.

Total net sales in Romania were 10.6 billion lei (2.1 billion euros), including sales of non-consolidated companies and domestic deliveries to subsidiaries. Compared to last year, they increased by 29%.

Bosch has 430,000 employees worldwide and sales rose from €77 billion to €87 billion.

In 2018, Bosch bought a 44-hectare plot of land in Cimmeria to invest 110 million euros in a washing machine factory. A year later, the company announced that it would no longer manufacture the factory, as there was no longer such a high demand for these devices in the market.

When asked about Simeria’s plans, Bosch said they own the land, but NO investment decisions have been made.
