More than 174,000 taxpayers with a credit note have already received it income tax refund the tax authorities are entitled to. Of the total taxpayers what they presented statement and was cleared, 55.61% received a refund and 39.3 million euros were credited to their accounts. On the contrary, for other taxpayers, tax administration passes to bias tax refunds with other tax liabilities, while in some cases the tax office re-verifies mostly large tax refunds. But who immediately receives the due amount, and who does not?

• Income tax refunds for taxpayers who do not have tax or insurance debts or reporting obligations are sent weekly to the Bank of Greece for an immediate refund.

• Income tax refunds for taxpayers who do not have insurance debts or reporting obligations and have tax debts are credited. Any offsets that cannot be done centrally will be processed by the tax authorities, meaning delays will be minimal.

• Income tax returns filed after April 30th and with an obligation to pay ENFIA will count.

• Income tax debts will be offset as a matter of priority with a right of refund for other taxes that exist or will arise before 07/31/2023, so in case of payment of income tax by offset, a 3% discount will be granted.

• Those taxpayers who qualify for a large tax refund will have to wait. And this despite the fact that the auditors of the tax inspectorate conduct a re-audit and, if evidence is found, the taxpayer is asked to provide the necessary supporting documents. Spot checks are also carried out.

Meanwhile, from the processing of the tax administration’s cleared statistics, it follows that 70.23% of taxpayers will not pay additional tax to the tax office or receive a tax refund, and the remaining 29.77% will receive a debit payslip.

According to AADE:

• 53.28% of taxpayers do not pay additional tax to the Greek state. In particular, out of 1,463,116 declarations, 779,548 are null.

• 16.95% of taxpayers or 247,998 individuals received a tax refund, which averages 355 euros.

• 29.77% of taxpayers are required to pay additional tax on income received in the previous year. In particular, according to 435,569 declarations, the result of liquidation is a debit, while the total amount of tax is 356.5 million euros. The average tax on these declarations is 818 euros.

Taxpayers who have a debt settlement have the opportunity to pay off the tax in various ways and in more than 8 installments provided by the Ministry of Finance. The legislation allows debtors to the state to use the constant regulation of the Ministry of Finance, and those who can pay in one go are also given a discount.

It is noted that at the end of the month, about 6.5 million property owners with debit settlement notes will have to pay the first installment of ENFIA. In total, they will have to pay about 2.2 billion euros, while the amount attributed to them must be paid in 10 monthly installments.
