
Xi Jinping: China, Central Asia must ‘unleash potential’
Chinese leader Xi Jinping pledged on Friday to build more rail and trade links with Central Asia and proposed developing joint oil and gas projects in the region.
Speaking to regional leaders, he urged China and Central Asia to “fully unleash” their potential in trade, economic and infrastructure cooperation.
Xi unveiled a grand blueprint for Central Asia’s development as he wrapped up the historic Central Asia summit held in the historic Chinese city of Xian.
Xi committed US$3.8 billion (€3.5 billion) in financial support and donations to development projects at the summit attended by leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
