Thanks to the advancement of technology, photovoltaic or solar panels are becoming more and more in demand, but also more accessible to the general public in our country. Similar to those who turned to heat pumps, more and more Romanians are looking to install such panels in the hope that they can reduce their maintenance bills. But as is often the case with new technologies, the state appears to be gasping for air in a race to keep up with demand for support programs for those who want to generate their own energy.
The Casa Verde Photovoltaic program, which was supposed to be the catalyst for such panels, has ironically caused a major headache for Romanians looking to cash in on the sun. But despite all these problems, thanks to the new program for 2023, the Romanian authorities hope that we will have more than 100 thousand consumers in Romania, that is, people who simultaneously consume and produce electricity.
Price. How long does it take for a solar panel investment to pay for itself?
If we talk about the price, a set of photovoltaic panels usually costs from 20 to 35 thousand lei. According to specialist websites, this can cost up to €15,000 including installation.
Solar panels are an option for most types of homes, whether we are talking about the project stage or the construction stage, or whether it is an already built home. Fastening elements and constructions are similar. Thus, the amortization of investments rather depends on the degree of self-consumption, Claudiu Velisar, technical director of the photovoltaic company Romstal Romania, explained to Panorama:
- “If we are talking about the residential segment, where we connect for 0.8-0.9 lei/kW, where the input price is also higher, then amortization takes place in 5-7 years. If we talk about the prices in the commercial segment, then taking into account that 80% of the consumption is during the daytime, the amortization occurs much faster, within 3-5 years, even in some cases 2-3 years.”
If the price limit were to be abolished, then for the residential segment depreciation would occur even faster, in about 4-5 years, according to the expert.
