Elon Musk appoints Linda Yaccarino as new CEO of Twitter
Twitter owner Elon Musk on Friday named Linda Yaccarino as the social media platform’s new chief executive.
“I’m excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!” said Musk. Yaccarino “will primarily focus on business operations while I focus on product design and new technology,” she added.
Yaccarino was NBCUniversal’s head of global advertising and left the company on Friday, sparking rumors that she may have been tapped by Elon Musk for the top job at Twitter.
She brings with her extensive experience in the world of advertising and media.
American media such as New York Times and CNBC reported that talks between Musk and Yaccarino had been going on for weeks.
Musk bought Twitter last year for $44 billion (€40.4 billion) after months of legal wrangling over the company.
Since then, it has launched a number of new features, such as Twitter Blue, but has faced criticism over its management of the site.
Twitter Blue, which is the paid subscription service, briefly stopped last year in November after misleading or misinformed information flooded the social media site.
Since Musk took over Twitter in October, advertisers have fled the site out of fear that their ads could appear alongside inappropriate content.
Musk acknowledged earlier this year that Twitter has suffered a massive decline in ad revenue.
