
According to a study by Reveal Marketing, two out of three Romanians do home renovation and interior design on their own, with the kitchen (55%) and bathroom (53%) being the main target areas.
YouTube videos (45%), DIY store websites (40%) and advice from friends (40%) are the main sources of information they turn to to do their own home improvement.
According to Reveal Marketing Research, more than two-thirds of Romanians (70%) say they usually do renovations and interior design in their own homes, and as expected, men are more involved than women (79% against 62%).
In addition, as a general trend, we see a gradual increase in interest in self-employment with age, with young people aged 18 to 24 being the least interested (54%), and at the opposite pole mature adults between 45-55 being most interested (80 %).
Regarding the types of repairs and improvements, the majority of Romanians carried out such activities in the kitchen (55%) or in the bathroom (53%). Next in the top of preferences are repair or landscaping of the yard (39%), and they are marked much more by both elderly people over 55 years of age (47%), and residents of rural areas (60% versus 26% in the city).
To a lesser extent, Romanians mentioned repairs and improvements in the hall (34%), in the living room (31%) or on the terrace/balcony (30%).

If we pay attention to the methods of informing, then among the advantages of those who are used to independently deal with procedures related to the arrangement and repair of the house – videos on YouTube (45%), DIY store sites (40%) and advice. from acquaintances/friends (40%).
If we take a closer look, we can see that DIY store websites are more preferred by men (44% vs. 35% women) and 45-55 year olds (49%), who are also the most active age group in terms of DIY activities ( Do It Yourself).
Other alternatives that Romanians turn to for information are advice from parents/family (33%), especially for young people aged 18 to 24 (48%), searching on Google (34%), asking for information directly from the store, from the seller (30%) or social networks (27%).
Those who prefer to ask for information directly in the store are fairly mature people over 55 (38%) and residents of rural areas (35% vs. 27% in cities), both categories have lower rates of using online information tools compared to the general population sample. On the other hand, social networks are mentioned more often by women (30% vs. 24% of men).
When it comes to the way to purchase the products needed to carry out the desired repair and improvement, 90% of Romanians prefer to go to a brick-and-mortar store, this choice facilitates direct interaction with the products and the opportunity to ask the store staff for advice.
