National elections coupled with the Greeks’ last-minute habit their tax returnexpected to lead Ministry of Finance in delaying the process. It is indicative that during the 35 days of operation of the electronic portal for filing declarations, only 10% of them were submitted. In order to complete the process without an extension, namely by June 30, 110,000 declarations per day will need to be submitted from today, which seems unlikely. Extensions are no longer the exception, but the rule. According to AADE statistics, about 6 million tax returns must be filed over the next 55 days.
From the processing of the cleared tax administration statistics, it follows that 72.4% of taxpayers will not pay additional tax or receive a tax refund, and the remaining 27.6% will receive a debit settlement order. So far, 618,891 applications have been submitted.
According to AADE:
• 54.7% of taxpayers do not pay additional tax Greek State. In particular, out of 618,891 operators, 338,532 are zero.
• 17.7% of taxpayers or 109,544 individuals received a tax refund, which amounts to an average of 391 euros. According to AADE, 85,078 recipients of the tax refund have already received it. In particular, they collected a total of 21.40 million euros.
• 27.61% of taxpayers are required to pay additional tax on income received in the previous year. In particular, for 170,875 declarations the result of liquidation is a debit, while the total amount of tax is 127.4 million euros. The average tax on these declarations is 745 euros.
Only 10% has been paid, and 110,000 applications must be submitted daily by June 30 to avoid an extension.
For those taxpayers who receive debt repayment, they have the opportunity to pay off the tax in various ways and in more than 8 installments provided by the Ministry of Finance. The legislation provides for the possibility for state debtors to use the fixed scheme of the Ministry of Finance, and those who can pay at a time are also given a discount.
In particular, income tax for this year can be refunded:
- One time payment. If the tax bill is paid in full by July 29, the taxpayer will receive a 3% rebate.
- Fixed setting. The fixed arrangement offers up to 24 installments, which, however, bear interest. The interest rate reaches 4.5% for 12 installments and over 6% for 24 installments. In order to be included in the arrangement, no payment of the settlement debt must be past due.
