The Athens Stock Exchange posted strong gains, thus ending the first week of May with very good performance as the General Index managed to break through 1100 points and consolidate its year-to-date gain to 19.52%, with investors making purchases, in the shadow of positive corporate first quarter results.

Banks, as well as many blue chips, supported the gains, as well as a significant improvement in sentiment prevailing in European markets and a jump recorded by Wall Street indexes at the open.

In particular, the general index closed with an increase of 1.15% to 1111.24 points, and the turnover reached 71.3 million euros.

The Large Cap Index also closed up 1.15%, up 2693.34 points, +0.66%, while the Mid Cap Index closed at 1624.19 points, while the Banking Index advanced 1.46% to 833.77 units.

Of all the blue chips, Sarantis stood out with a 4.02% increase, Jumbo with +3.57% and National Bank with +3.63%, while Coca-Cola, Quest and Autohellas recorded growth of more than 2%. %. Only three securities closed in price: Mytilineos at -0.76%, Motor Oil at -0.28% and OTE at -0.15%.

Banks and many blue chips supported the growth.

Over the week, the general index strengthened by 2.41%, and the banking index by 4.9%.

The Greek market continued to surprise, moving against the current downtrend in overseas markets, comments Manos Hatsidakis of Beta Securities.

He adds that during other periods of turbulence abroad, the domestic market will immediately suffer, as low liquidity will exacerbate the intensity of liquidations.

The reason for this superiority lies in the results and forecasts formed for current use.

Coca-Cola, Mytilineos and Piraeus Bank’s first-quarter numbers showed that last year’s record highs were not only due to special economic conditions, but also had a growing continuity.
