APIA data shows that the new car market grew by 27% to more than 36,000 units. Dacia found more than 13,500 customers, Renault – 3,100, Hyundai – 2,450. Skoda and Toyota rounded out the top five. Volkswagen was sixth, BMW eighth and Suzuki tenth.

Among the top ten brands, the largest increase was achieved by BMW (86%), and Renault rose by 85%. Only one brand was down, Hyundai, -8%, but 2022 was exceptional for the South Korean brand and will be hard to match.

The weights will also change throughout the year depending on several things (availability of different models, stages of the Rabla program, seasonality).

Logan was the most popular model with over 4,000 units sold, followed by Sandero and Duster. The best models in the ranking from foreign brands were: Clio and Megane from Renault, Skoda Octavia and Tucson and i30 from Hyundai.

SUVs are still doing very well with 40% of the market.

Electric vehicles had another good quarter with a total of over 3,000 units, up 48% from last year. The Spring model occupied half of the market, and the Volkswagen brand – 12% of the electric market. Tesla was at three, with 274 cars in three months.

It is worth noting that in March electricity decreased compared to March 2022 (-2.4%).

In the fuel category, gasoline cars occupy 67% of the market, and diesel cars – 12.8%, according to APIA data.
