The latest study conducted by Reveal Marketing Research aimed to learn more about how Romanians prepare for the Easter holidays and how much their behavior and needs have changed compared to a similar study conducted in 2019.

Where and with whom are Romanians going to spend the Easter holidays?

According to a study conducted by Reveal Marketing Research, 83% of Romanians say they will spend Easter at home with their family, the same percentage as in 2019. In the same vein, 24% say that they will visit relatives, and 11% say that they will travel, in the country or abroad.

We observe that the tradition is preserved, the majority of Romanians are going to celebrate Easter with their family, with their partner (71%), children (52%) or parents (49%). Young people aged 18-24 years mostly remember spending time with friends (37% vs. 24% in the total sample).

If we turn to employed Romanians (72%), we find that half of them (48%) will take an extended Easter holiday, with an average of 3 additional days off, in addition to the legal ones.

On interest in Easter traditions and customs: 78% of Romanians intend to go to the Easter service, and 45% are used to fasting

If in 2019 the percentage of those who wanted to go to church on Easter night was 83%, then this year 76% expressed such an intention, with significantly more women than men (81% versus 72%).

According to the research, 45% of Romanians fast before Easter – 19% of them fast during Holy Week, 16% fast only on Wednesday and Friday, and 10% fast the whole way.

In the midst of preparations for Easter, 64% of Romanians intend to buy gifts for their loved ones, a significant decrease compared to 2019, when 8 out of 10 expressed this desire.

Children (64%), life partner (61%) and parents (40%) are the top recipients of gifts this year.

In the case of gifts for parents, there is a significant decrease of 11% compared to April 2019.

Gen Z (ages 18-24) are significantly more likely to give gifts to parents (70%) or friends (48% vs. 22% overall), while those over 45 give gifts to children. (76%).

Budgeting for Easter: less sumptuous meals this year for 75% of Romanians

The majority of Romanians say they will allocate a similar budget to last year’s food budget for the Easter holidays (51%), while 24% will allocate a smaller budget.

In the context of month-on-month price increases, in both scenarios, Romanians will have a different Easter meal this year, regardless of whether we mean reducing the number of products purchased or choosing the lowest prices.

On the other hand, a quarter of Romanians (25%) say that the family budget allocated to food for the Easter holidays will be higher this year than last year. 36% of Romanians said that they would increase the budget by a percentage of 10% to 20%, and 31% of respondents mentioned an increase of the allocated budgets by 20% to 30%.

Regarding the main food categories that Romanians intend to buy, they believe they will allocate more generous budgets to vegetables/vegetables (31%), meat (29%), dairy products/cheese (27%), eggs ( 24%) ) and alcoholic beverages (16%).

If we pay attention to the places where they will buy these categories of goods, the most popular are hypermarkets/supermarkets – alcoholic beverages (73%), meat (61%), dairy products/cheese (56%), eggs (49%) . , vegetables/vegetables (44%).

Buying at the market or directly from producers is next in the top of Romanians’ preferences, especially vegetables, vegetables (44%), dairy products, cheese (33%) and eggs (27%).
