In February 2023, the average net salary was 4,270 lei, which is 16 lei (+0.4%) more compared to January 2023, the National Institute of Statistics reported on Wednesday.

In the budgetary sphere, in February 2023, a slight increase in the average net salary compared to the previous month was recorded in the state administration (+1.1%). A decrease in the average net salary compared to the previous month occurred in the spheres of health care and social assistance (-1.0%), respectively, in education (-0.1%).

The highest salaries remain in IT&C (10,234 lei net), and the lowest in hotels and restaurants (2,355 lei).

February 2023 compared to January 2023

In February 2023, the level of average net wages was affected almost equally by both increases and decreases compared to the previous month. Thus, the increase in the average net salary compared to the previous month is due to the provision in February 2023 of periodic bonuses (bonuses for the year or for a special activity), in-kind and material assistance, amounts from net profit and from other funds (including valuable tickets), and as well as production achievements or higher revenues (depending on the contracts/projects).

The most significant wage increases were recorded:

• from 24.7% in the production of tobacco products, from 19.6% in the auxiliary activities of financial intermediation, insurance activities and pension funds, respectively from 14.6% in the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations;

• from 7.5% to 11.0% in the production of crude oil and natural gas, production of cinematographic, video and television programs, audio recordings and editing of music (including broadcasting and transmission of programs), production of coking products and products obtained from crude oil processing , other mining activities, production of computers, electronic and optical products;

• from 1.5% to 3.5% in printing and reproduction of records, professional, scientific and technical activities, research and development, repair, maintenance and installation of machines and equipment, insurance, reinsurance and pension fund activities (except those that carried out in the state social security system), tanning and finishing of leather (including production of tourist goods and leather products, harnesses and shoes; preparation and dyeing of fur), provision of services in the field of information technology (including computer maintenance), industry, metallurgy, forestry and logging (including fishing) and aquaculture), building

The largest decrease in wages was recorded:

• by 10.9% in the field of mining-related services, respectively by 10.1% in air transport;

• from 3.0% to 8.0% in mining of metal ores, water transport, telecommunications, production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning, entertainment, cultural and recreational activities;

• from 1.5% to 3.0% in waste water collection and treatment, hotels and restaurants, production of paper and paper products, wood processing, production of wood and cork products (except furniture, including production of straw and other woven vegetable products materials), production of electrical equipment.
