Ten years ago, specialty coffee was a small segment of the overall market – less than 2.5%. Today, this niche is thriving. Having experienced the real, genuine taste of good coffee, Romanians rarely return to ready-made varieties.

The entrepreneurs who brought this concept to Romania compare the phenomenon of the street with one-way traffic. Panorama spoke with them to learn their stories, the challenges of the first years of business and their predictions for a market that is growing but still new to most coffee consumers.

This is a phenomenon that has also gained momentum in Romania: special cafes, places where coffee is raised to the level of art.

It is a universe that developed rapidly also at the local level, and which “Panorama” tries to paint through the eyes of the main actors: people who brought special coffee to the cups of Romanians, from pioneers to passionate young people who opened their cafe in the midst of the pandemic and even those who combine the dexterity of a barista with the art of a coffee roaster.
