Tesla Motors had its best-ever quarter for shipments, totaling 422,000 units, up 36% from Q1 2022. If all goes well, Elon Musk’s company could end the year with 2 million cars produced.
Production figures were even better: 440,000 units, and Elon Musk believes that the 500,000-car milestone will be exceeded in the coming quarters. This means that after 2022, when almost 1.4 million cars were produced, the current year could bring a total of 1.8 to two million cars.
Everything is normalizing at the plant in China, and the plant in Berlin is producing more and more. There’s a good chance Cybertruck production will begin in the second half of this year. It also ramped up production at a plant in Texas, where 4,000 Model Y vehicles were built last week.
In January, Tesla reduced the prices of its cars by 20%. The base version of the Tesla Model Y starts at $55,000, compared to $66,000 before the discount.
Without this price drop, sales would have been much lower because fewer people would have been able to afford the cars.
In 2022, Tesla Motors delivered 1.37 million vehicles, which is 40% more than in 2021.
FactSet data points to revenue of $2.6 billion in the first three months of 2023, compared with $3.3 billion in the first quarter of 2022. Total revenue is expected to increase from US$18.8 billion to US$23 billion.
