For a long time, Romanians avoided the stock market, but the pandemic has changed the attitude towards investments. According to data from the Investor Compensation Fund (FCI) cited by BVB, the number of those who invested in the domestic capital market increased and reached an all-time high of 133,000 investors at the end of 2022. By comparison, there were nearly 82,000 investors at the end of 2021, a 62% increase in one year.

Investing in the stock market is often accompanied by an adrenaline rush, and the last month has clearly demonstrated this. The bankruptcy of Silicon Valley Bank and the takeover of Credit Suisse by Swiss rival UBS worsened financing conditions in the market and tested the nerves of investors in global stock markets.
