Credit Suisse: Swiss prosecutors investigate UBS takeover

Switzerland’s federal prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the takeover of Credit Suisse by UBS, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

A prosecutor in Bern is investigating possible violations of Swiss criminal law by government officials, regulators and executives of two banks that agreed to an emergency merger last month, prosecutors said in a statement.

There were “many aspects of the Credit Suisse events” that needed to be investigated and needed to be analyzed in order to “identify any crimes that could fall within the purview of [εισαγγελέα]”, added to the message.

The Swiss federal prosecutor and Credit Suisse did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Last month, UBS bought rival Credit Suisse for 3 billion Swiss francs (about 3 billion euros).
