The Acer Aspire Vero is a special kind of laptop, and that’s obvious when you see its body and then its keyboard. It is also made from recycled plastic and has some important advantages.

Acer Aspire Vero also has an acronym in its name: PCR. No, it has nothing to do with the PCR known to Romanians, but comes from Post-Consumer Recycled. That is, in the production of a laptop, plastic is used that does not end up in the trash, hence the special design that I was talking about. Depending on the shade of color you purchased, I had the option of using Cobblestone Gray, which had yellow bits of plastic visible in the case.

Thus, the reuse is reflected in the laptop: 50% PCR plastic in the keyboard, 30% in the body and 99% in the panel around the screen. Add to that that the touchpad is made of plastic that could end up in the ocean (harvested within about 50 kilometers of the coast so it doesn’t end up in the ocean). Speaking of the screen, it has a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display with Acer BluelightShield for those nights when you’ve been lying around staring at the screen for too long.

Acer’s Vero line is designed to offer more sustainable electronic solutions for users who want to have as little impact on the environment as possible. And this is visible even before taking the laptop out of the box, because the packaging itself is “green”. It uses 90% recycled cardboard, 90% recycled paper in the instruction manual, and the laptop sleeve and keyboard protector are made from 100% recycled PET. All this without reducing protection. Neither the laptop nor the materials in which it is packed are painted with harmful substances.

What the Acer Aspire Vero laptop has to offer

The simple and distinctive design makes it a great choice for everyday use, while the robust construction ensures increased durability. But more on that later, because now we are talking about technical characteristics. The model we used has a 15.6-inch Full HD screen with slim bezels, an Intel Core i3 processor, 12GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. Windows 11 operating system.

Along with the laptop comes a program that will surely be useful for you and what you are currently using. It’s about VeroSense, with which you set the modes in which you use the laptop: Eco+ mode (drastic energy savings), Eco mode (reduces performance to ensure greater autonomy), Balanced mode (which balances between moments of economy and those in which you have). need for performance) and in performance mode where it’s pretty clear what’s going on. With each of them, the fan speed and, implicitly, the noise level that the laptop makes automatically change.

Add to all this a significant selection of ports compared to other laptops on the market. It offers wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi 6E, has an HDMI 2.1 port, two USB 3.2 ports (classic, but with higher speed), a USB 2.0 port, as well as a USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port. Of course, there is no shortage. a 3.5mm headphone jack and a Kensington lock if you’re using something like that to tether it to a desk somewhere. At the same time, it also has a fingerprint scanner, so you don’t have to enter your password every time you go back to your laptop.

There is one more important port: an Internet connection. Yes, from the classic when you connect a cable and get maximum speed or quickly configure a wireless router if you cannot do it via Wi-Fi. I can say that I started evaluating Ethernet connectors only when they started to disappear from laptops.

If you’re looking to upgrade your laptop, note another big advantage: screws are trivial, and that’s a good thing. These are classic screws that can be immediately unscrewed with a suitable screwdriver. You remove the cover and access the changes you need. Since this version has enough RAM, I recommend an SSD of at least 512 GB (supports up to 1 TB) and as fast as possible. You can never have enough space, so it doesn’t hurt to invest in this area. Regardless of the upgrade, you can also use Availability to repair when needed.

Who is this laptop for?

In short, the answer will be the same for everyone. However, this is a laptop. It offers good performance and has outstanding technical characteristics, and the price is decent (less than 1000 euros, but it depends on the configuration you buy it in; you can also find it for 3500-4000 lei). It’s a smart choice for those looking for a reliable and high-performance laptop for everyday use, whether for work, entertainment, video streaming or video conferencing (it has a Full HD webcam)

Basically, it’s suitable for users who want a stable laptop with a large screen that can be repaired fairly easily, has acceptable performance and possibly has a lower environmental impact. Of course, you can also use it to dive into content creation. It easily handles a session of Lightroom for photo processing or Photoshop for most tasks.

Considering the times we live in, this is a good solution for those who need a computer to stream or process audio and even video. Of course, the final export will not take place at the speed of light, but at such a price level, miracles should not be expected. And of course it’s a very good entertainment station, with a big screen.

What can be blamed on it, given the period it was launched, is that Acer didn’t go the extra mile by putting a dedicated graphics card on it. Given the upgradeability, this would be a significant advantage. And, at the same time, it would not hurt at all to have charging through USB-C, and not through its own plug.

Last but not least, the keyboard is great for those who type a lot on a daily basis. And, in addition, it does not leave the feeling that it is too flimsy, as it happens with other laptops of this price level. At the same time, it lights up.

Overall, the Acer Aspire Vero is a solid and well-balanced laptop that offers good value for money and is suitable for everyday use. To all this, you add the benefits of a lower environmental impact and a laptop that stands out with its design.
