In a country that, at least on paper, has enormous agricultural potential, Romania does not cover its domestic consumption. Even where it is small. This happens, for example, with vegetables.

The problem is that we produce too little and that forces us to resort to imports. The entire landscape is full of contradictions: at the same time that Romanians produce few vegetables and end up needing imports, Romanian fruit and vegetable producers have enjoyed, as we shall see, record revenues.

There are several explanations for some of these paradoxes. Others, however, remain elusive and will continue to drag down Romanian agriculture, whose products are in some places more expensive than imported ones.

The main feature is that Romania is no stranger to vegetable growing, which has deep roots in the history of local agriculture. It is a little difficult to talk about the future, since agriculture in general and vegetable growing, in particular, depend on the weather.
