​CFR SA has announced the first steps to launch a major program to rehabilitate 225 km of rail on Highway 100 between Craiova and Caransebes. The costs will exceed 10.5 billion lei, the work will certainly last for many years. Now trains travel in 4 and a half hours – 4 hours 40 minutes 20 years ago they took an hour less.

The line receives the most funding in the PNRR program.

The national railway company CFR SA announces that on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, the award documents for the first 3 lots related to the railway section Craiova – Drobeta-Turnu have been sent to the Electronic System for Public Procurement (SEAP) for verification and confirmation Severyn – Karansebesh, for public procurement of services for the design and implementation of rehabilitation works.

The total length of the railway line Craiova – Drobeta-Turnu-Severin – Karancebes analyzed in the feasibility study is 225 km, and the total estimated value of the investment target (6 lots) is 10,506,354,835.57 lei excluding VAT.

The first documents submitted on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in PDSER, are the subject of two public procurement procedures for the design and implementation of rehabilitation works for Lot 1 and Lot 2, respectively Lot 3.

Procedure 1

Lot 1: Kraiova (route X) – Fikiashi (route Y), km 248+760 – 286+735 (37,975 km)

Estimated value: 1,400,738,775.27 lei without VAT

Duration of design and execution of works: 54 months (12 months of design and 42 months of execution of works)

Lot 2: Filiashi (movement Y) – Igiroasa (movement Y), km 286+735 – 331+000 (44,265 km)

Estimated value: 1,142,560,591.80 lei without VAT

Duration of design and execution of works: 60 months (12 months of design and 48 months of execution of works)

Procedure 2

Lot 3: Igiroasa (head Y) – Drobeta-Turnu-Severin (head X), km 331+000 – 362+632, including CF connections of the new route option with Prunișor and Drobeta Marfă stations, Drobeta Marfă CF station, Dudașu CF junction ( 41.234 km)

Estimated value: 3,087,419,527.78 lei without VAT

Duration of design and execution of works: 72 months (12 months of design and 60 months of execution of works)

The estimated total cost of public procurement of the first 3 lots (design and execution of works) is 5,630,718,894.85 lei, excluding VAT, and the source of financing will be provided from non-refundable external funds through the Transport Program (PT) 2021-2027 and the State Budget.

The main goals of the railway, included in the first 3 LOTS (123.47 km):

– 123,474 km restored to a maximum speed of 160 km/h;

– 16 stations/stops

– 48 bridges

– 87 bridges

– 18 lower and upper passages

– new two-track tunnel (6189 m)

– two-track viaduct (900 m)

– 16 railway crossings

– 4 stop points

– 4750 m of sound-absorbing panels

– construction of operational/repair buildings

– duplication of CF lines: Strehaia – Ciochiuța, Ciochiuța station, Ciochiuța – Tâmna, Tâmna – Igiroasa, Igiroasa station, Igiroasa – Prunișor

– new route options: Igiroasa – Prunishor (new), Prunishor – Drobeta Skhidna Nova, Drobeta Skhidna Nova – Drobeta Marfuri, Drobeta Skhidna Nova – Dudashu

– modernization of signaling/centralization/telecommunications systems, automatic barriers at railway crossings

– European Road Traffic Management System (ERMS) on the entire site
