Xiaomi, known for its phones and vacuum cleaners, announced in 2021 that it would also produce electric cars and said the new car division would require more than one billion euros of investment.

Xiaomi representatives said that the investment in the Xiaomi Automobile division last year amounted to 400 million euros, and the number of R&D employees reached 2,300 people.

The first electric car will be presented this year, and sales will begin in 2024. It will have a more affordable version with a battery from BYD, as well as a more luxurious version with a battery from CATL.

Xiaomi will produce cars in its own factory without turning to another partner. The head of the company hinted that there will be up to four models in the line, including an SUV that should enter the market in 2025.
