Empowerment and promotion of inclusion of all.
“Gender stereotypes are learned social ideas about the roles and characteristics of men and women,” one reads, looking at how they manifest themselves. However, societies manage to overcome them through inclusiveness and diversity. So do companies when they seek to create an environment that effectively helps to develop natural talents and abilities, which in turn contribute to the development of the companies themselves.
MYTILINEOS is such a company and aims to make a practical contribution to these efforts by participating in the Global Sustainable Development Goal 10, which aims to empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, regardless of age, gender, nationality , financial or other status. Goal 10 falls under the category “Facilitate the reduction of inequalities”, one of the 6 main strategic categories that the company has established as part of its contribution to the achievement of the 2030 Global Sustainable Development Goals.

“They said I wouldn’t live”
MYTILINEOS is actively working, among other things, in heavy industry, having, accordingly, quite difficult, as we usually say, subjects and professions in which we once did not see women. However, the story of Vassilika Zamani, who was hired by MYTILINEOS in 2004, is interesting. She comes from a farming family in Castro Boiotia and is the mother of five children. When he was hired, he was an elementary school graduate. But then she attended an evening high school (in parallel with her work in the company), which she successfully graduated from.
For the past 17 years she has been working in the alumina department and, as she says: “I chose this profession for reasons of income. At first, many people told me that I would not survive. That’s what they believed. Man does not know the power he has within himself. I asked my coach to train me and judge me like a man. I trusted him a lot and he trusted me. From the first day I trained on the crane. At the end of my training, the entire hierarchy came to see me at work, where they saw—perhaps with some surprise—that I had succeeded. All the jobs that I did were very responsible. Possible failures, errors or omissions can lead to hazardous situations for workers and facilities. At the same time, physical activity and shift work (morning – afternoon – night, any day).
