Tesla Motors opened in April 2021 the first superchargers in Romania, they are available only to those who have Tesla cars, and charging has been free until now. The company has announced that everything will change. The company will also introduce a fee so that drivers leave the station immediately after charging the car.

There are approximately 1,500 Tesla cars in Romania.

“Beginning March 9, 2023, Supercharger charges will be charged per kWh,” Tesla said in an email to owners of the company’s vehicles.

Tesla has fast charging stations in Bucharest, Constanta, Pitesti, Cluj, Sibiu and Timisoara.

“Supercharger charging rates vary by Supercharger location and are updated regularly. The full balance, rates from previous charging sessions and invoices will be available in the Tesla app,” says Tesla.

The tariff has not been announced, but sources say it will be around 2.5 lei/kWh.

Depending on how low the battery is and what version of Tesla the user has, the car can be charged in 20-60 minutes at a charging station. The power of the Supercharger is one hundred times greater than the power of a household outlet.

In order to ensure that as many drivers as possible use the charging stations, and to avoid leaving the car plugged in for too long, there will also be an inactivity fee.

An idle fee is charged when a Tesla vehicle occupies a station, when a Supercharger location is at least 50% occupied, and after a charging session has been completed for 5 minutes or more. If the station is 100% occupied, the idle fee is doubled.

For Romania, the idle charge will be 2.5 lei per minute and 5 lei per minute if the station is 100% occupied.

“We envision a future where cars drive themselves after charging is complete, further improving network efficiency and improving customer interactions. Until then, move vehicles away from Supercharger devices after charging is complete. A customer would never leave their car parked next to a gas station at a gas station, and the same principle applies to Supercharger devices,” says Tesla.
