AADE: Large scale tax evasion in service companies – how they were caught

extended tax avoidance in eleven branches of the service, its auditors found Independent State Revenue Administration.

These are companies in which the controls were targeted, with specialized processing, and their results are processed by special software in connection with controls such as the location and duration of the service.

Significant concealment of taxable material in:

* Courier service

* Medical services

* Photographers Service

* Telecommunications

* Parking services

* Building cleaning services

* Services of ceremony contractors

* Pawn shops

* Tutorials

* GYM’s

* Cafe bar

How did they hide their income?

The list of tax evaders includes freelancers and service businesses

• They did NOT give out tax information

• NOT filed tax returns or filed inaccurate tax returns

• They did NOT report their business activities to the tax office.

How did they get into the “lens”

The auditors identified tax evasion through:

* Complaints from citizens

* Internet surveys,

* Bank account details

* Processing of seized items

Showcase cases completed in 2022 are as follows:

• The association based in Thessaloniki was found to be engaged in commercial activities from 2016 to 2020 with a gross income of more than 2,400,000 euros.

• A sole proprietorship in Larissa providing photo services raised €880,000 between 2016 and 2020 without issuing 1,400 receipts.

• A general partnership in Larissa with a photo services business that made sales in 2016-2020 without providing tax information, totaling more than 540,000 euros.

• A limited company based in Thessaloniki operating a café-bar submitted incorrect VAT returns. and income tax hiding taxable material in excess of €470,000.

• An Athens-based limited liability company providing tutoring services failed to provide 1,011 tax data during 2017-2019. The net value of the items in question was over €215,000.

• A sole proprietorship based in Patras, providing credit services for collateral, failed to file 15,183 tax returns between 2012 and 2019 for amounts exceeding EUR 650,000, and filed 39 fictitious tax returns from 2016 to 2019.

• A Crete-based limited liability company engaged in road freight transport submitted incorrect VAT returns during 2016-2020. and income tax, hiding taxable material in the amount of more than 3.6 million euros.

• A funeral home in the Dodecanese from 2016 to 2020 filed no or incorrect VAT returns. and income tax, hiding taxable material totaling more than 450,000 euros.

• A joint-stock company based in Corfu and engaged in the provision of medical services was found to be hiding income of more than 430,000 euros for the period from 2015 to 2019 received from foreign insurance companies as payment for the provision of medical services to foreign insured persons.

• A sole proprietorship based in Pieria cleaning rooms and carpets failed to file 2,984 tax returns in 2020, totaling more than 210,000 euros.

• An open-air car park in Spata failed to issue 30,540 tax returns in 2016-2020 hiding taxable material totaling more than 460,000 euros.

• An anonymous telecommunications company based in the northern sector of Athens filed inaccurate VAT returns. concealment of taxable material for a total amount of more than 3,700,000 euros.

• An anonymous Athens-based company whose main business is courier services failed to issue 33 tax documents hiding taxable material totaling more than €1,500,000.

• A doctor in Komotini failed to issue 667 tax documents in 2016 for more than 28,000 euros.

• A general partnership based in Thessaloniki providing instrumental or non-gymnastic gym services failed to provide 2,264 tax data in 2017. The total value of the items in question exceeded 75,000 euros.

Investigations are ongoing as there are a number of targeted cases.
