The second major power purchase agreement (PPA) in the UK and one of the largest in Europe was signed by Mytilineos, Centrica and Vodafone. Centrica will supply Vodafone with the power generated by the five solar parks built by Mytilineos.
The parks are located in Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Buckinghamshire and Dorset and have a total capacity of 232 MW. The start of their commercial operation is expected gradually during 2023, as well as during the first quarter of 2024. The specific projects will generate more than 216 gigawatt-hours of energy from renewable sources, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 53,000 tons per year – the equivalent of removing approximately 31,400 cars from the roads, and contributing to the country’s energy independence and security.
Centrica will supply Vodafone with power generated by 5 photovoltaic parks built by Mytilineos.
This is the second major solar PPA between Mytilineos, Vodafone and Centrica in the UK, following a similar deal last year to supply 109 GWh of green power. Once the solar farms are operational, 50% of total energy production, equivalent to 108 gigawatt-hours from renewable sources, will be channeled through an agreement between Centrica and Vodafone.
Mytilineos has already established itself in the UK both in the production and storage of clean energy. The company currently has a portfolio of 268 MW under development in the country and plans to add another 400 MW during 2023.
“We are particularly pleased with this second deal with Vodafone, which once again demonstrates our ability to support renewable energy production and the UK’s energy independence efforts. At the same time, we are proud to be part of this important milestone for the largest green PPA in the country, both as developers and as power producers,” said Ioannis Kalafatas, Chief Executive Officer of Mytilineos Energy Division.
