The new car market in the EU grew in the first month, and Volkswagen became the leading brand. Dacia had the best rating, 3rd place, with registrations above Renault and Skoda. Toyota was second, and Ford did not make the top 10. The numbers will change in the coming months, as will the hierarchy.

ACEA data shows that 760,000 new cars were registered in Europe in January, 11% more than in the first month of 2022. Compared to the months before the pandemic, the market is at a low level. Gasoline cars accounted for 38%, and diesel – less than 16%. Purely electric cars had a share of 9.5%, which means 72,000 cars, of which 1,073 are in Romania.

Volkswagen delivered 85,000 vehicles, Toyota around 60,000 and Dacia around 45,000, representing a record 6% of the market compared to 4.7% in January 2022. This is the best place in the Dacia top because there are statistics. In January last year, Dacia was in 10th place.

One thing to emphasize is that the data is only for January, the market shares will change and adjust as the data accumulates over several months of the year.

Compared to January 2022, Dacia’s market share increased by more than one percentage point, while Peugeot’s market share decreased by more than one point. Compared to 2022, the decline was almost one percentage point for several brands: Ford, Seat, BMW and Mercedes.
