CFR Infrastructura announces the start of the renovation and modernization of the Central Railway Station in Timisoara, the contract amount is 21 million lei. The facades of the buildings will be restored, the electrical installation will be replaced, and the pedestrian tunnel and the square in front of the station will be repaired. This year, Timisoara became one of the cultural capitals of Europe.

The railway station in Timisoara is one of the most important in the country and is in dire need of modernization. There are direct trains from Timişoara to cities such as Bucharest, Budapest, Iasi, Satu Mare, Arad, Cluj, Oradea, Resica, Caransebes or Lugoz.

The construction site is now fully organised, the first measures taken by the construction worker were to demarcate the work zones, install no-access signs/reflective tapes, close the pedestrian tunnel and install a temporary footbridge to ensure passenger access to the platform.

As part of these works, the entire facade of the complex of buildings (buildings 1-5), on an area of ​​3451 square meters, will be repaired. installations will be replaced, cooling systems (HVAC), photovoltaic panels will be installed, and the square in front of the station will be modernized and there will also be an illuminated artesian fountain.

The cost of the works is 21.03 million lei without VAT, which are financed from CFR SA’s own resources. The completion date is 2024.

In the tunnel, the floor will be made of granite, resistant to heavy traffic, and the walls and supports will be made of travertine tiles. LED lighting will also be replaced.

On the station square, the sidewalk (granite tiles) will be renewed, trees will be planted and benches will be installed.
