Two anti-fraud inspectors of the General Fiscal Directorate have been placed under house arrest after they allegedly demanded a bribe from a company administrator to impose a lower penalty than the law for violations found, DNA reported on Saturday.

According to a DNA press release sent to AGERPRES, the prosecutors of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate – the department for combating crimes equivalent to corruption crimes – have ordered the opening of a criminal case and the detention of Andrey Ioan Iliescu for 24 hours, starting on Friday. and Alina Iona Popescu, inspectors of the General Fiscal Department for Combating Fraud, for committing the crime of bribery.

The anti-corruption prosecutors note in the rulings that on Thursday Andrei Ioan Iliescu and Alin Ion Popescu, in the mentioned capacity, after checking the commercial company, allegedly demanded from its administrator (witness) the sum of 10,000 euros, from which they would have received the first installment on the same day in the amount of 24,000 lei.

“The corresponding money would have been demanded and received by the two defendants in order not to fulfill their duties in connection with the above-mentioned activities, accordingly to apply a lesser sanction than provided by law for the detected violations,” – say the investigators. .

DNA also shows that in the same context on Friday, Alin Ion Popescu was allegedly caught red-handed by anti-corruption prosecutors after receiving from a witness the sum of 26,000 lei, representing the second batch of money initially demanded by two inspectors.

On Saturday, Bucharest Court judges accepted a 30-day house arrest proposal made by anti-corruption prosecutors, prosecutors said.
