Germans become champions in travel expenses collected Hellas from tourism in 2022, while the Brits are in first place for the country that sent the most visitors to Greece. But the most dynamic return was made by the Americans, whose travel revenue exceeded 1.155 billion euros and the number of arrivals – 1.043 million people, between January and November, when the latest available data on Bank of Greece.

Total travel receipts for the period January-November 2022 are 2.8% lower than the same period in 2019, at 17.38 billion from 17.88 billion. Compared to the period January-November 2019 Inbound passenger traffic for the corresponding period in 2022 decreased by 11.1%. But the average travel expenses for foreign visitors to Greece rose by 9.8% compared to 2019 to 623.1 euros from 567.4 euros the previous year before the pandemic.

However, the average spending of Americans exceeded 900 euros, and that of Germans – 750 euros. However, the increase in average spending is interpreted more as a percentage of inflation than as a diversification of tourist budgets.

With revenues of 17.38 billion euros, the Germans brought in the most money and the British brought in the most people.

Between January and November 2022, receipts from Germany increased by 41.2% compared to 2021 to 3.233 billion euros, while receipts from France also increased by 28.5% to 1.261 billion euros. Of the non-EU countries, the 115.9% increase compared to 2021 was represented by receipts from the United Kingdom, which amounted to 3.101 billion. the level of 1.155 billion, and from Russia decreased by 62.7% and reached 40.5 million, while in 2019 they exceeded 420 million.

Inbound trips in November increased by 90.3% compared to the same period in 2021 and amounted to 27.255 million travelers compared to 14.324 million. Trips through airports increased by 82.4% and through bus stations by 135.7%, always in relation to the corresponding period of 2021.

In particular, the tourist flow from Germany showed an increase of 45.6% (always compared to 2021) to 4.307 million travelers, and from France by 50.1% to 1.739 million travelers. Relative to countries outside the European Union, the tourist flow from the United Kingdom increased by 185.2% to 4.416 million travelers, and from the USA – by 173.3% to 1.043 million. Finally, the tourist flow from Russia decreased by 68. 3% and amounted to only 35.3 million travelers.
