British Soundmouse moves to Greek startup Orfium

Another purchase technology company adds Greek interests to his portfolio startup company Orphium, which acquires the British company Soundmouse, expanding its services in the audiovisual industry. Orfium, founded in 2015, has developed software that identifies missing copyrights for the use of music tracks on digital platforms and then returns them to their creators. In connection with the “consumption” of music through modern digital platforms such as YouTube, etc., it is necessary to identify those musical works that are used on the platforms, but for which the rights to use are not granted.

Specialized in music reporting services, Soundmouse is based in London and has a clientele that includes major broadcasters, major media companies and established streaming platforms. Through this particular acquisition, Orfium is acquiring, in addition to the company’s technology, Soundmouse employees, especially those who specialize in R&D.

It is recalled that the startup was founded by Chris Mohoni and Drew Delis, and Dimitris Papaspyros and Michalis Petihakis were added to the team. It has offices in L. Angeles, where it is headquartered, in London and Tokyo, and has an R&D center in Athens with about 180 employees. It already works with major publishers and record companies (Sony Music, Warner Chappell Music, etc.) and recently created its subsidiary Orfium Music Rights Greece, which started as an independent music management organization.

An innovative music technology company identifies missing copyrights for the use of music tracks on digital platforms.

She represents intellectual property rights to musical works, including the repertoire of Universal Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music Publishing. The information indicates that the acquisition of Soundmouse was made with funds received from the development of Orfium, as well as funds raised as part of a funding round. As a reminder, in 2022, Orfium acquired Breaker, a Japanese content marketing and promotion company based in Tokyo, and with this move, it is among the Greek startups that continue to acquire other businesses to further their development.

In addition to Orfium, real estate operator Blueground recently acquired Brazil’s Tabas to expand into Latin America and prepare to enter the Mexican market.

“One of the most important solutions we bring to the music industry is to make it easier to track usage, track and monetize rights across all channels. Powered by the latest advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence, our software enables creators, rights holders and all stakeholders to get more value despite the rapid emergence of new platforms and means of music consumption,” says Rob Wells, CEO of Orfium. . “The acquisition of Soundmouse will allow us to expand our products and services by immersing ourselves in the complex infrastructure of the entertainment industry and simplifying content creation and management for program creators, broadcasters and music rights holders,” he adds.
