Bakery producer Vel Pitar, the largest bread producer in Romania, controlled by the investment fund Broadhurst Investments, has been sold to the Mexican group Bimbo, one of the largest in the world in this niche, sources close to the deal told Profit.ro.
According to Profit.ro’s sources, the deal is complete and will be announced next week on the Mexican stock exchange, where the Bimbo group is listed, when it reopens.
The Mexican group Bimbo, which has been in the market since 1943, is one of the most important in the world, with operations in 33 countries in America, Europe, Asia and Africa and 197 bakeries with an annual turnover of about 15 billion dollars. In Europe, it is also present in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Great Britain, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine.
Investment fund Broadhurst Investments at the general meeting of shareholders in 2006 decided to delist the companies Vel Pitar and Winmarkt. Vel Vitar is part of the New Century Holdings (NCH) group, whose business is locally coordinated by Andrii Siminel.
Another important step took place the following year, when the shareholders of Vel Pitar Ramnicu Valcea decided to split the company into 10 specialized companies. Milling, baking and trade were the most important.
