Online shopping enthusiasts are women and men aged 25-34 who spend the most by far (€1,031 out of €859 in the first half of 2021). ), while slightly older people, aged 55 to 64, are also quite familiar with online shopping, having spent €949 out of €622 in the first half of 2021. Greeks are still familiar with online shopping even after the pandemic, which is why most of them have turned to digital shopping channels. At the same time, perhaps due to the wave of precision, many are turning to online shopping to find deals and discounts on non-essential items.

As the study says, clothing, footwear, electronics, cosmetics and electrical appliances remain the most popular product categories that Greek consumers turn to when shopping online. However, compared to the first half of 2021, there is a slight decline in online purchases of these products, as now, after a period of self-isolation, most consumers prefer to make these purchases in physical stores. Tellingly, online clothing shopping grew by about 42% in the first half of last year from 46% in the corresponding period of 2021. Growth in the first half of 2022 was recorded in online hotel bookings (+177%). , airline tickets (+133%) and tickets related to entertainment such as theater and cinema (+231%). Online car insurance is not among the first choices of consumers and remains in Greece with rates around 10%. However, while online shopping was a very important reason for using the Internet in Greece during the pandemic, and in particular the third most common, this changed in the first half of 2022. Online shopping is now the 5th most popular reason for citizens to use the Internet. Social media, search for information and email are now the top three reasons why Greeks use the Internet.
