Kostas Skrekas, Minister of the Environment and Energy, announced new subsidies for electricity prices in January.
The total electricity subsidy for households and businesses is 840 million euros, twice as much as in December.
Most of it is due to the taxation of additional profits of companies producing electricity, as well as companies supplying electricity.
In particular, for January, in relation to electricity and subsidies for tariffs for the population for all basic and non-basic living services without income criterion and regardless of the supplier, the differentiated subsidy has the following structure:
With a monthly consumption of up to 500 kilowatt-hours, the subsidy will be 330 euros per megawatt-hour. Nine out of ten households in Greece fall into this category. According to Mr. Skrekas, almost 90% of the growth is absorbed in this way.
For monthly consumption between 501 and 1000 kWh, the subsidy is 280 euros per MWh. If a household reduces its average daily consumption by 15%, the subsidy is increased by €50 per MWh.
For monthly consumption exceeding 1,001 kilowatt-hours, the subsidy is 190 euros per megawatt-hour and applies to two out of every 100 households in Greece.
Households included in the social household tariff absorb 100% of the increase, and the subsidy will be 378 euros per MWh.
Professional accounts
For commercial customers with a capacity of up to 35 kVA and a monthly consumption of up to 2,000 kilowatt-hours, the subsidy is 292 euros per megawatt-hour, i.e. almost 80% of the increase is absorbed.
For commercial customers with power up to 35 exceeding 2000 kilowatt-hours and for all low-, medium- and high-voltage non-domestic tariffs, the subsidy is 134 euros per megawatt-hour.
For furnaces, regardless of energy supply and total monthly consumption, the subsidy is 292 euros per MWh, which is almost an 80% absorption of the surplus.
For farmers, the subsidy is horizontal and amounts to 330 euros per MWh.
Natural gas
With regard to natural gas and household tariff subsidies, DEPA Emporias, in collaboration with other suppliers that favor natural gas, will provide a horizontal subsidy of 20 euros per legal MWh, and this will affect 700,000 households, regardless of their size of residence and income.
