The scandal with the purchase of 600 BMWs by the police from a company founded by Michael Schmidt, a close friend of Johannis
We will remind you that in September of this year, a whole scandal broke out after the Europol union blamed the tender dedicated to the Romanian police.
In a one-bidder auction, the police signed a contract to buy 600 BMW 320i xDrives from Automobile Bavaria, a company founded by Michael Schmidt, a close associate of President Klaus Johannis.
The Romanian police defended itself, saying that a similar procedure had taken place last year, only involving 300 cars, but with the same technical characteristics. The procedure was canceled because no bids were registered, although four manufacturers met the requirements, police said.
On October 6, the Minister of the Interior, Lucian Bode, presented at a press conference the results of the inspections carried out by the MAI Control Authority and stated that the tender was correct and that USR leader Katelin Drula was “deliberately misinforming”. “.
Bode then claimed that the technical details sheet, including the 8+1 gearbox, would have been an integral part of the funding request approved by Catalin Drula himself on 25 May 2021, when he was transport minister, and that Drula would then 5 signed a financial contract on July 2021 for the purchase of 300 special vehicles, a contract that would contain Annex 2, which was just a sheet of technical details.
- Carefully! Neither Minister Bode, nor the Ministry of the Interior, nor the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police were willing to present to HotNews.ro or other media Annex 2 with the technical specifications that would prove what Bode had just waved in front of the TV cameras. Even the financial contract published by Cătălin Drula as a reaction on the same day is not complete and does not include the controversial Annex 2 with technical specifications.
On October 21, USR leader Katalin Drula presented new documents that he claimed would prove that Interior Minister Lucian Bode lied at a press conference where he presented the results of the MAI Control Authority on the police’s purchase of 600 BMWs from Automobile Bavaria.
Drula presented an internal document of the Police, a technical project aimed at the purchase of 300 special vehicles – a tender canceled last year by the Police.
Drula compared the photos presented at the Bode press conference, and later by the PNL in the online campaign, and the data found in the technical project aimed at purchasing 300 special cars for the traffic police.
The fully released document, signed by Drula, shows that it is an internal police project created in September 2020, when Marcel Vela was the interior minister and Lucian Bode was the transport minister.
Cătălin Drula was Minister of Transport from 23 December 2020 to 8 September 2021.
Automobile Bavaria responded by saying that “the special BMW 320i xDrive cars offered by IGPR are not luxury cars” and that Michael Schmidt, the company’s founder and close to President Johannis, “no longer holds any position or participates in the activities of Romania. “.
