What will be included in the “Santa Claus basket”

As for the “Santa Claus basket”, as the ministry called the basket for Christmas toys, it will be created by shops and toy chains for the holidays and will include the following:

  • cars
  • remote controlled
  • outdoor games
  • role play (dolls, kitchens, tools, etc.)

This particular basket will start on December 14th and will last for two weeks.

The chains should have at least 1 product, but as the minister said, they said they would have more.

The evolution of the cart will be tracked every Wednesday and there will be a dedicated box in e-Consumer for both participating chains and toys. “There will also be a test of profitability,” the minister said.

The President of the Association of Manufacturers and Sellers of Children’s Toys previously spoke to ERT about “Santa Claus’s basket.” Giannis Papadopoulos.

As mentioned, there will be one special badge in the form of Santa Claus and a supermarket basket among the products that will be on the list. The corresponding catalog will also be posted at the entrance to the store.

“Games that will participate in Santa’s Basket will have lower prices. Control will be carried out by the ministry on a weekly basis,” Papadopoulos said.

Regarding the consumer basket, the minister noted that during the 6th week of its operation, the average cost of the basket is reduced by 30% compared to the first week, “and if we calculate that inflation was at the level of 10%, then the decrease reaches 40%. %”. The Minister also noted that now in 2/3 of the networks the cost of the basket is less than 100 euros.

Speaking earlier at OPEN, Mr. Georgiadis said that after six weeks of implementation of the measure, out of 816 products in the consumer basket, 72% have stable prices, 19% have declined and 9% have risen.

“I mean, normally the 128 euros that the basket cost in the first week should have become 140 euros today, and now it is 100 euros. So the cart works, and I want to thank the consumers because the reason it works is because the consumers prefer it. For example, if someone buys groceries from the cart every year, they get 1.5 salaries. We are talking about a huge number,” the minister said.
