The Minister for the Environment and Energy issued a stern statement on the limitation of natural gas supplies adopted by the Commission. Kostas Skrekaswhile Greece and 14 other EU member states are preparing to request an improved proposal.
Speaking at an extraordinary council of EU energy ministers. Skrekas stated that setting a maximum price limit of 275 euros/MWh it’s not really an upper limit.
“The energy crisis is shaking households and businesses, and for this we must do something. We cannot sit idly by and do nothing, knowing that price increases are real threats to European households and businesses. We are wasting valuable time to no avail, and we need to protect European households and the credibility of Europe. This is what we will try to do at today’s Council,” said the Minister of Environment and Energy of Greece.
Answering journalists’ questions, he said that our country wants a more realistic mechanism for natural gas, demanding an immediate and quick response.
“Even in August, when we were hit by a surge in natural gas prices, this corrective mechanism would not have worked. Europe’s biggest problem is that it buys the most expensive natural gas in the world. Therefore, we must react as soon as possible, we cannot waste time. And, of course, the European regulation of solidarity should go hand in hand and be connected to such a corrective mechanism,” he said.
