
Just one of five consumers (i.e. 20%) say they will make purchases during their period Black Fridayaccording to the 7th Retail Consumer Trends Survey by SELPE.
This percentage is higher in the 18-44 age group and especially in this age group. 25-35 years old where it reaches 32%, i.e. every third buyer in this age group is going to shop for Black Friday. In contrast, the percentage in the age group over 45 is below 18%.
In addition, a consumer who regularly shop online is twice as likely to buy an item during Black Friday compared to other shoppers who choose a chain of physical stores, which shows that online shoppers they are significantly more active during this period: 28% for those who shop online and 14% for those who don’t.
As for the amount of estimated spending on purchases during the Black Friday period for those who decide to buy, it is estimated on average at 146 euros per person. This is an estimated cost of more than 120 million euros.

In connection with views consumers during Black Friday, 53% thinks it’s just another sales season like any other, with 22% disagreeing.
13% consider it necessary to have such a grace period, and 44% do not agree and do not consider it necessary. Cause it seems
that consumers they see no significant difference between a particular sales period in relation to other sales periods of the year.
6% say they have better deals during Black Friday than other discount periods, while 61% disagree and believes that there are no practical differences.
However, the majority of consumers at 65% (two out of three) would like to be long duration discounts and
10% are satisfied with the current duration.
Of course, this desire is contrary to the nature of this particular sale period, which aims to provide goods at reduced prices for a short period of time until the end of the year.
The data show that, despite the challenges posed by inflationary pressures, a significant portion of the population will shop during this period, which is also a result of the need to save money.
The study was conducted with the scientific support of the ELTRUN laboratory of the Athens University of Economics between 14 and 16 November 2022 through a pan-Greek survey of 1157 consumers.
