Government Considers Three Actions to Reduce Electricity Costs in Hotels

Three interventions to reduce it energy cost from hotels were discussed today at a meeting attended by Minister of State Akis Skertsos, Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas, Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias, President of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) Giannis Retsos and President of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers (POX) Grigoris Tassios.

This is the new Save Business program that was recently introduced and is expected to be implemented with a €200 million Recovery and Resilience Fund. The program aims to improve the energy efficiency of small and medium enterprises and includes a special fund of 100 million euros for the tourism sector. The second initiative, as mentioned by Mr. Skrekas, is that the possibility of creating hotel energy communities is being considered, which can be included in the virtual energy compensation scheme.

In addition, it was decided that special attention will be given to both small hotels with less than 150 beds, and hotels located in mountainous areas, which face the greatest difficulties in terms of energy costs. The new share is added to the horizontal state subsidy for fuel oil for 25 minutes, it will include, among other things, the cost of electromechanical equipment, thermal insulation work and the installation of renewable energy systems.

Minister of Tourism Mr. Kikilias noted that the government is fulfilling its obligation to help mountain destinations in practice through these actions, which improve the tourism product offered while contributing to the goal of sustainable tourism development, and at the same time they continue to be highlighted in campaigns.
