The project, developed by the current municipal authorities, concerns one of the most beautiful areas of the city of Piraeus.

What will include a “facelift” in Piraiki

Among other things, it is planned to create a landscaped free public space for pedestrians and cyclists with a cycle path along the coast, as well as to create the appropriate infrastructure to support the operation of shops.

Also planned are a walkway on the shore to view the Cononey Wall from the sea and special lighting to highlight it, additional open spaces to encourage public access, redevelopment of parking spaces and the creation of new ones, the creation of ramps to connect paths and provide disabled access to parts of the Wall and other works. for the improvement of the coast.

In addition to improving the city’s urban image, the redevelopment is expected to add cultural, tourist and business value to the Piraeus area.

For proper improvement, the local authorities decided to open a dialogue with residents and entrepreneurs of the district. The purpose of this consultation, according to the Municipality of Piraeus, is to properly prepare a study that will be in the interest of everyone, so that Piraeus becomes a more modern, hospitable and functional area with respect for its landscape, history and archaeological site.

The implementing agency of the project is the Piraeus Sin Municipality Development Organization, which undertakes to implement all of the above.

Statement by Giannis Moralis

Speaking to APE-MPE, Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis noted that the inclusion of the Themistocleous Coastal Restoration Project, with financial support from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, is a particularly significant development for Piraeus.

“This is an important event in Piraeus that will combine the creation of public spaces and sustainable urban mobility infrastructure with the improvement of visitor access and the promotion of the Kononey wall, the modernization of the area and the creation of cultural, tourist, urban and business value. We are moving forward into the next period as quickly and efficiently as possible with another major project that enhances our city’s image, highlights its strengths, and creates multiple benefits for residents, businesses and visitors. Piraeus is changing for the better and I am sure that the coming years will be much better for the city and for all of us.”

For Mr. Moralis, nothing comes by itself, and the municipal authorities do not leave everything to chance.

“The revival of Microlimanos decades later did not happen by chance. The Piraeus Tower, which has been inactive for about 50 years, is not being reconstructed and will accidentally be opened in 2023. Legendary for decades and coveted by all, Piraiki’s renovation was left out of the €25 million Restoration Fund by coincidence. The largest investment program of the Municipality of Piraeus was not secured because it was handed over to us. 7 million euros were not transferred to the enterprises of our municipality because we found them somewhere. We do not accept refugees who are slowly integrating into Piraeus society with the necessary calm due to luck. Dozens of interventions in many areas were not accidental. Our city is not every year cleaner and brighter than happiness. The municipal fees were not reduced at the same time as all of the above, for the first time in the last 40+ years by 25% by a lucky chance,” the Mayor of Piraeus commented recently.

In conclusion, he emphasized that much remains to be done to facilitate the daily life of both residents and workers of the city, as well as visitors, whether they are residents of the country or tourists who have come as guests for a few days.
