Global PC sales fell 15 percent last quarter, with some leading brands down 28 percent, according to IDC. Over the past year, market demand has fallen while prices have continued to rise. Over the past three months, only Apple’s numbers have grown.
In the second quarter, PC shipments fell 15% from 87 million units to 74 million. Lenovo occupies 23% of the market, HP – 21%, and Dell – 17%. Apple has 8.2% of the market, and Asus has 6.9%.
The market leader Lenovo’s shipments fell by 16 percent.
Compared to the same period in 2021, from July to September 2022, HP’s shipments fell by 27.8% and Dell’s by 21%. At Apple, there was a 40% increase because the products were available and the effect of the quarantine in China was no longer felt. Overall, Apple had a great quarter compared to last year, which was extremely weak.
Data from IDC shows that the average selling price of a PC rose for five consecutive quarters between the first of 2021 and the first of 2022 to $910.
Many products were unavailable, components became more expensive, and so was shipping. Rising inflation also mattered.
