
The opportunity for residents of the mountainous regions of the country to harvest timber, both collectively and individually, under the supervision of the relevant forest services, to cover the needs of the winter season is provided Ministry of Environment and Energywith the corresponding circular signed by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Giorgos Amiras.
As highlighted in a related statement from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Forestry Workers’ Cooperatives (DASE) are already providing free firewood to residents throughout Greece.
This year, according to the same announcement, the Ministry allocated 4,500,000 euros, the highest loan in the last decade, to forest policy implementation inspection services: Macedonia-Thrace, Epirus-West Macedonia, Thessaly-Sterea Greece, Peloponnese-West Greece and the Ionian Sea, to cover the individual needs of the inhabitants of the mountainous regions of the country. In more detail, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the amount of funding per year is as follows:
- 2022: €4,500,000
- 2021: €3,500,000
- 2020: 3,000,000 euros
- 2019: 680,000 euros
- 2018: 480,000 euros
- 2017: €457,000
- 2016: €907,500
- 2015: 1,100,000 euros
- 2014: €90,000
At the same time, as emphasized in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, realizing that the current conditions create the need to adjust prices for logging and other work, the necessary actions are being taken to increase them from the next management year.
Deputy Environment and Energy Minister Giorgos Amiras said: “The energy crisis that Europe and Greece are experiencing is unprecedented, which is why we have increased funding for logging. The free distribution of firewood in mountain and forest villages is being promoted, and now we are giving residents the opportunity to cut firewood to heat their homes.”
